3RD YEAR PLAN
Key Worker Advance Estimates. Immediately following the Dinner, the Trail Bosses and all other key workers and members of their families meet to make "advance" estimates of their own giving for the coming year. The dollar and percentage amount of increase, as a group, over their estimated giving for the previous year is shared with the congregation ahead of the RUN.
The Trail Bosses and their supervising Station Agents then remain for an important briefing session conducted by the General Manager and his or her helpers. Here, the Trail Bosses read and discuss their Trail Boss Guidelines and become familiar with the contents of their assigned route saddlebags. Each prepared bag includes a route list sheet, personalized estimate of giving cards for each route family inserted in unsealed enclosure envelopes, a budget brochure, and a stewardship reading booklet. Here, also, the Trail Bosses plan for the phone calls to their route families. They will make these during the week to schedule the relay of the bags from home-to-home at 30 to 45 minute intervals on the coming Run Sunday.
The Power Of The Plan Is Threefold
The strengths of this and all of Stewardship Resources' relay plans are three in number.
First, it is a program of maximum involvement in the solicitation of the giving estimates. The relay system democratizes the solicitation, giving many, many persons the opportunity to help with the campaign in a way that is comfortable and rewarding for them.
Second, it is a program of minimum resistance due to the use of the "estimate of giving" concept. While parishioners who in the past have refused to sign pledge cards are willing to fill in estimate cards, those who have made and paid pledges customarily treat their estimates as if these were pledges and pay them just as faithfully!
And in the third place, it is a program of total accountability within the framework of a very sound, detailed organizational structure. The various key workers are held accountable by other key workers, so that all feature4s of the plan are likely to be carried out on time and in appropriate ways. Not only is each person in a leadership position held accountable, but each is supported in appropriate ways.
